Epic Systems Breaks Ground on Verona's Massive Campus 6 Expansion

VERONA, Wis. — Epic Systems, the Verona-based health tech giant, broke ground this year on its ambitious Campus 6 at 1979 Milky Way, featuring two new office buildings named Longago FarAway and an additional themed structure, plus amendments for three existing office buildings and a food service facility. The 1-million-square-foot expansion addresses surging demand for the company's electronic health records software, which powers hospitals nationwide. Verona Plan Commission documents from January 6, 2025, detail the site plans, marking the latest chapter in Epic's relentless growth since relocating its headquarters from Madison to Verona in 2005.

Epic's Verona empire now spans roughly 9 million square feet across 40 connected buildings divided into whimsical campuses like Prairie, Central Park, Farm, Learning, Wizards Academy and Storybook. The Farm Campus alone added 960 offices in 300,000 square feet back in a prior phase, underscoring the firm's scale. Sustainability drives the new build: the overall campus boasts one of the world's largest geothermal systems with over 6,000 wells and thousands of miles of piping, slashing energy use by 25% via rooftop gardens, wind turbines, solar panels and efficient envelopes—supporting a 3.5-megawatt data center and U.S. Department of Energy research.

Founded by Judy Faulkner with a mantra of 'do good, have fun, make money,' Epic has pioneered imaginative architecture over 25 years through partners like Cuningham Group, transforming its 1,100-acre site into a productivity playground. The expansion aligns with Wisconsin's tech boom, promising jobs in Dane County while enhancing Verona's skyline.
