Drivers Urged to Exercise Caution: Heavy Snow Impacting I-90 Near Lookout Pass

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for the Central Panhandle Mountains warning of heavy snow and icy road conditions, particularly on I-90 near Lookout Pass, urging drivers to exercise caution this morning.

Drivers in the Central Panhandle Mountains should prepare for rapidly deteriorating road conditions this morning due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service Spokane WA. Heavy snow was reported at 6:36 AM PDT over Lookout Pass and Mullan, located approximately 7 miles east of Wallace. The snow is moving northwest at 8 mph and is expected to impact Lookout Pass along Interstate 90 in Idaho between mile markers 69 and 73.

Authorities warn that icy roads are possible as snow melts and refreezes quickly. Conditions can change rapidly in winter weather situations. Motorists are advised to be prepared for snow or ice-covered roads, slow down, and allow extra travel time.

This Special Weather Statement is effective from October 12, 2026, at 6:38 AM UTC (11:38 PM PDT on October 11, 2026) and will expire at 7:00 AM UTC (12:00 AM PDT on October 12, 2026).
