Fiber Optic Installation Project Underway in Anchorage

Staff Writer
May 16, 2026

A fiber optic cable installation project is underway across Anchorage along utility easements and rights of way. Crews work during daylight hours and carry identification. The company will deliver door hangers before work begins in each area and restore disturbed ground when finished.

The city grants access to rights of way, which typically run along streets, sidewalks, rear lot lines, or between properties. Homeowners maintain these areas but cannot prevent the installation.

Utility companies will mark existing public lines with flags to prevent damage. Residents should not remove these flags; crews will remove them after construction ends. Homeowners with private utilities such as irrigation systems or dog fences should contact the project directly, since 811 does not locate private lines.

Residents with questions can reach construction support Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1-800-905-9017 or [email protected].
