👷‍♂️ Staff Introduction — Meet Our New Building Inspector

👷‍♂️ Staff Introduction — Meet Our New Building Inspector Hi, I’m Tim Jessup, the Building Inspector for the City of Concordia. In this role, I help ensure that homes, businesses, and public buildings throughout our community remain safe, well-maintained, and compliant with city building codes. I work closely with property owners, contractors, and city departments to answer questions, perform inspections, and address building-related concerns. My goal is to help protect our residents while supporting a safe and thriving Concordia. If you have questions about building safety, permits, or inspections, I’m always happy to serve as a resource for our community. Helpful Information from the Building Inspector Why Permits Matter What we want residents to know:Building permits are more than paperwork. They are an important form of protection. Permits help ensure construction work is completed safely, correctly, and in compliance with city codes. They protect homeowners by confirming that projects meet minimum safety standards and can help prevent costly issues in the future, particularly when selling or insuring a property. Permits also allow the City to maintain accurate records of property improvements and help ensure that structures and utilities remain safe for the entire community. We’re a Resource, Not Just an Inspector What we want residents to know:Contacting the Building Inspector early in the planning process can save both time and money. Whether you are planning a project, hiring a contractor, or simply having questions, reaching out before work begins can help prevent delays, unexpected corrections, or compliance issues. The goal of the Building Inspection Department is to work collaboratively with residents and contractors to support safe, successful projects throughout Concordia.

Hawaii Voters Can Track Ballot Status with Free State Service

Pearl City – Hawaii voters can stay informed this election season by signing up for the state’s free ballot tracking service. The service sends voters updates on the status of their mail ballot and provides deadline reminders throughout the year. More than 100,000 Hawaii voters are already enrolled in the service, with voters ages 66+ being the highest users. Officials have heard positive feedback from kupuna voters since the launch in 2022 and want to see the number of users grow. Chief Election Officer Scott Nago explained, “The simple ballot tracking tool can help address several concerns shared by both voters and election administrators. It provides transparency and peace of mind for voters to know where their ballot is, and helps reduce the number of voters who miss deadlines.” He added regarding the tools alert function, “We’re hopeful that the election alerts will also help alleviate long lines at voter service centers by encouraging residents to vote before Election Day.” Visit elections.hawaii.gov and click “Sign Up for Ballot Notifications.” Voters who previously enrolled do not need to re-register. Haven Farm Thrives at Pearl City High School with Community Volunteers

By Barry Villamil | MyPearlCity.com Mary and I got up bright and early this morning and headed over to the Haven Farm at Pearl City High School to visit with Brian Walker who manages the Haven Farm and is also a part-time teacher at PCHS. We were greeted by Haven Farm community volunteers who were hard at work clearing out cane grass and weeds. Brian came up an gave us an update of the crops growing at the Haven Farm and the compost mound that is rising under the sun from PCHS green and food waste. The Haven Farm is thriving with a variety of plants and vegetables: ti leaf, flowers, avocado trees, papaya trees, okra, tomatoes, broccoli, peppers, egg plant, zucchini, and red cabbage all being blessed by beautiful white butterflies that floated and danced in and out of the garden, It was really nice to meet Brian’s wife Amy who was at hard work tending to the plants in the Haven Farm greenhouse. It was an inspiring visit to the Haven Farm on Saturday and looking forward towards seeing future crops of corn and pumpkins sprout, grow, and shared upon its Harvest.
