High Wind Watch Issued: Gusts Up to 50 MPH Expected
A High Wind Watch has been issued for Northern Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee, with gusts up to 50 mph possible from Saturday morning through Sunday morning, raising concerns for downed trees, power outages, and difficult travel.
Residents in Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb, and Cullman counties in Alabama, and Moore, Lincoln, and Franklin counties in Tennessee should prepare for a High Wind Watch effective from Saturday morning through Sunday morning. The National Weather Service in Huntsville, AL has issued this watch until October 11 at 7:00 AM CDT.
Southeast winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph, with gusts potentially as high as 50 mph across all of Northern Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee. There is a high-end potential for gusts of 60-70 mph, particularly in higher terrain areas.
These damaging winds could lead to downed trees and power lines, with widespread power outages possible. Travel may become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. The National Weather Service advises monitoring the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.
