Artesia Seeks Utility Construction Foreperson | Job Opening

The role offers an annual salary of $64,400 to $80,500, based on the candidate's skills, experience, and education. Applicants must live within a 30-minute commute of the Artesia Service Center.

The foreperson will manage utility construction projects, converting engineering plans into operational systems. This includes planning, organizing, and scheduling crew and equipment activities, as well as hands-on participation. The position demands maintaining a safe and cooperative work environment, often requiring coordination with multiple departments and external companies.

Ensuring compliance with safety guidelines, OSHA regulations, environmental standards, company policies, and government agency requirements is crucial. The foreperson will also oversee employee qualifications, conduct inspections, and resolve issues and contract disputes related to pipelines, scheduling, and work activities. Duties may include performing and overseeing welding and pipefitting, and providing on-the-job training.

Successful candidates need a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, and at least three years of relevant experience. Within one year of hire, they must obtain a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and maintain all applicable Operator Qualifications (OQs) and certifications. The city prefers candidates with two years of experience in the utility or underground construction industry or prior experience as an NMGC Foreperson.

The job involves field and plant environments, with potential overtime, on-call availability, and emergency response. Work may occur at various job sites, out of town, or in remote locations. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, and climbing. Occasional sitting, lifting up to 80 pounds, reaching, handling, fine dexterity use, kneeling, and crouching are also necessary. Workers will be exposed to extreme weather, high-pressure natural gas, blowing gas, gas fumes, and uneven terrain.
