Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) has been recognized by the state of Florida for its dedication to fostering positive school culture and robust student support systems. This recognition highlights the district's commitment to creating safe and inclusive learning environments across the county.
The Florida Department of Education's award reviews school climate data, student achievement, and the implementation of programs designed to enhance the overall school experience. HCPS has implemented Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, expanded mental health support services with increased access to counselors, psychologists, and social workers, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The district also uses restorative practices for conflict resolution and strengthens family and community engagement.
Lennard High School in Ruskin is among the schools within the district contributing to this positive school culture. Principal Melissa Cox of Lennard High School commented, "Our staff and students are deeply committed to fostering a positive and inclusive environment. We believe that a strong school culture is the foundation for academic achievement and personal growth." The district emphasizes a culture of respect, inclusivity, and belonging for all students and staff through anti-bullying initiatives, diversity and equity programs, and creating safe spaces for dialogue.
