Special Weather Statement: Strong Thunderstorm Approaching Chaves County Plains

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for the Chaves County Plains due to a strong thunderstorm. Residents in southern Roswell, Dexter, Roswell Correctional Facility, and Greenfield, including those on Highway 285 between Mile Markers 89 and 104, should monitor weather conditions closely.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque, NM, reported at 6:26 PM MDT today, September 18, that radar detected a strong thunderstorm 19 miles southwest of Dexter, moving northeast at 20 mph. This storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 50 mph and half-inch size hail.

Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. This statement is effective immediately and expires at 7:00 PM MDT today, September 18.
