Kansas Attorney General's Task Force Seizes Over 227,000 Illicit Products Since April

TOPEKA – Attorney General Kris Kobach announced today that the Kansas Consumer Protection Task Force seized 127,000 unsafe and illicit products in May, including cannabis, vape and kratom products. The agencies involved were the Office of the Attorney General, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas Department of Revenue, Kansas Department of Agriculture, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission. Law enforcement from the Wichita Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department also participated.

Law enforcement from the Wichita Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department also participated. “The amount of illicit products that are coming into Kansas is astonishing,” Kobach said. “This Task Force was created to stop illegal and unsafe products from being sold to Kansans and we are proud of the work we’ve been able to accomplish in a short period of time.” This is the second large seizure of products since the Task Force was created on April 1. On May 13, Kobach announced the Task Force had seized 100,000 products during its first month of operation. In total, the Kansas Consumer Protection Task Force has seized over 227,000 products since its inception. The mission of the Kansas Consumer Protection Task Force is to protect consumers from unregulated products including, but not limited to, delta-8, delta-9, and other intoxicating cannabis products, illegal vape products, kratom, and untaxed alcohol or tobacco. The Task Force ensures compliance with all applicable state laws and regulations concerning consumer protection, public health, and taxation. Attorney General Kobach is committed to taking a proactive approach to protecting Kansans from the dangers of unregulated products. The Kansas Consumer Protection Task Force will continue its efforts to identify and remove illegal products from the market.
