Rome student wins bronze at SkillsUSA nationals

Janie Ruiz, a Business Management student at Georgia Northwestern Technical College's Floyd County Campus, earned third place in the Customer Service competition at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta last week. She competed against more than 6,500 state champions.

Five other GNTC students competed at the June 1-5 conference. Caleb Greeson of Dalton, Jonah Nuckolls of Summerville, Connor Rowell of Rome and Jackson Woodard of Calhoun competed in TeamWorks. Timothy Mashburn of Ringgold competed in Welding.

The conference drew an estimated 19,000 attendees and featured 114 competitions. SkillsUSA serves more than 444,000 career and technical education students annually through chapters in middle schools, high schools and colleges nationwide.
