Strong Winds Expected: Seek Shelter Indoors Now

Residents in Collin, Hunt, Dallas, Rockwall, and Kaufman counties are advised to seek shelter indoors immediately due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Fort Worth, TX. This statement is effective until 9:00 PM CDT tonight, September 20, 2026.

An outflow boundary tracking south at 20 mph is bringing winds in excess of 40 mph. Radar indicates these strong gusts could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects. This weather event was detected at 8:18 PM CDT.

Locations that will be impacted by strong winds around 8:25 PM CDT include Dallas, Garland, Irving, Mesquite, Carrollton, Richardson, Grapevine, Coppell, Rockwall, and Farmers Branch. Forney and Highland Park are expected to experience these conditions around 8:30 PM CDT. Balch Springs, Dallas Love Field, and DFW International Airport around 8:35 PM CDT. Terrell around 8:40 PM CDT. Other areas impacted include Heartland, Lawrence, St. Paul, Lake Ray Hubbard, Elmo, Cash, Sand Branch, Union Valley, Branch, and White Rock Lake.
