Redirecting a Package

USPS Package Intercept service lets the sender (or authorized representative) stop delivery or redirect a package, letter, or flat that is not out for delivery or already delivered. Most domestic mailings with a tracking or extra services barcode are eligible for Package Intercept. Retail Senders: You can redirect a shipment back to your address or to a Post Office location as Hold For Pickup. You can only request a Package Intercept online with a USPS.com account. Commercial Senders: You can redirect a shipment back to your address, to a new delivery address, or to a Post Office location as Hold For Pickup via Business Customer Gateway. How It Works: 1. Verify that your shipment is eligible for Package Intercept. 2. If eligible, sign in to or create a USPS.com account to submit your request. 3. Use Retail Package Intercept to request that USPS redirect the shipment back to the original sender (you), hold it at the destination Post Office location, or hold it at a new Post Office location. 4. After submitting your request, you'll be provided an estimated total (intercept fee plus estimated Priority Mail postage, if applicable). USPS will then attempt to intercept and redirect the shipment. 5. If the shipment is intercepted, your credit card will be charged the $19.45 Package Intercept fee plus any applicable postage. If the actual postage is greater than estimated, any additional postage will be charged accordingly. 6. Your shipment will be redirected to the location you requested. Paying for Package Intercept: All intercepted items are redirected as Priority Mail. You must pay the applicable Priority Mail postage, except when the item was originally sent using Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, or First-Class Mail. Customers will not be charged if the shipment was not intercepted. If successfully intercepted, the non-refundable Package Intercept fee is applied to each intercept request. Retail and commercial customers can also purchase additional services for the intercepted package, like Adult Signature Required, Adult Signature Restricted Delivery, Signature Confirmation, and insurance. Determining Eligibility: USPS Package Intercept is not a guaranteed service and certain conditions apply. What Is Eligible: - Domestic USPS mail services with a USPS Tracking or extra services barcode - Packages whose total length and girth length is not larger than 130 inches What Is Not Eligible: - USPS Marketing Mail products and periodicals - Items addressed to a Commercial Mailing Receiving Agency - Items redirected to a PO Box - Nonmailable items, items with surface-only transportation markings, such as Label 127, Surface Mail Only, or items bearing other hazardous materials markings, such as Consumer Commodity ORM-D

Standard Forward Mail & Change of Address

Moving or Relocating: If you're moving, submit a permanent change of address request so your USPS mail is properly rerouted to your new address. If you're only relocating for 15 days up to 1 year (like going to school or staying with family or friends), submit a temporary change of address request. Getting Started: Plan ahead. Although mail forwarding may begin within 3 business days of your submitted request, it's best to allow up to 2 weeks. Mail will be forwarded to your new address as it comes, piece by piece. What Mail Is Forwarded: First-Class mail and periodicals (newsletters and magazines) are forwarded for free. Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, and USPS Ground Advantage items are forwarded for free. Media Mail items are forwarded, but you must pay the cost for shipping from your local Post Office location to your new address. USPS Marketing Mail is not forwarded. Your change of address order only changes your mailing address with the Post Office. You must still update government agencies (like for your benefits, driver's license, and voter registration) and companies (like banks, insurance, online stores, etc.). Where to Go to Change Your Address: Choose to change your address in a few simple steps online or visit your local Post Office location. You must submit your change of address request in person at a Post Office location if: You're moving outside the United States; You're submitting a change of request for someone else; You're unable to verify your identity online. How to Change Your Address Online: Go to the Official USPS Change of Address website. Choose an option for either an "Individual," "Family" (where everyone has the same last name), or "Business" move, and complete the form. Verify your identity: Opt in online to receive a verification code or link on your mobile phone. Pay the $1.25 identity verification fee. The billing address on your credit card must match either your old or new address. If your online identity verification succeeds: USPS will email you a confirmation code. Use this code if you need to modify or cancel your request. You'll get a Move Validation letter to the address you're moving from (your "old" address). About 5 business days before your change of address start date, you'll get a Customer Notification Letter (with your confirmation code) to your "new" address. You'll also get a welcome kit with coupons from USPS partners. Mail will be rerouted to your new address piece by piece. If you can't verify your identity online: USPS will send you an email with instructions and a barcode. Bring the email along with acceptable photo ID to a local Post Office location. How to Change Your Address at the Post Office: Visit your local Post Office location with acceptable photo ID and any other required documents. Request a free Mover's Guide packet. Fill out the PS Form 3575 found inside the packet, and give it to the retail associate. They will use your photo ID to verify your identity, then process your change of address request. If You're Unable to Verify Your Identity: To submit a change of address, you must verify your identity. If you can't verify your identity online, go to a Post Office location with acceptable ID. If you can't verify your identity at a Post Office location, you will not be able to complete a change of address with USPS. If you can't submit a change of address with USPS, your only option is to directly contact everyone who might send you mail. Change of Address Requests for Special Situations: Submitting a Change of Address Request for Someone Else: If you're changing an address for someone else (as their "Authorized Agent"), you'll need to go in-person to a Post Office location and bring acceptable ID and additional documents (depending on who you're changing the address for): A child under the age of 18: Their birth certificate; A person who is unable to act for themselves: Power of Attorney. Stop or Forward Mail for the Deceased: To submit a change of address request for someone who is deceased, you must go in-person to a Post Office location with documents showing you're the executor or administrator authorized to manage their mail. International Moves: If you're going to move outside the United States, before you leave the U.S., you must go to a Post Office location to verify your identity and submit your change of address request in person. Businesses: If you are submitting a business change of address request in-person at a Post Office location, you must have documentation that shows you're an "Authorized Agent." U.S. Military Moves: For U.S. military moves, first work with your command; your AMPS relocation info will automatically be shared with USPS. Related Mail Services: USPS Hold Mail Service: If you'll be away for 3–30 days, you can "pause" all mail delivery to your address with USPS Hold Mail service. Extended Mail Forwarding: Standard mail forwarding lasts 12 months. You can pay to extend mail forwarding for 6, 12, or 18 more months (18 months is the maximum). Premium Forwarding Services: USPS offers paid Premium Forwarding Service options. For a fee, customers can have their mail packed up and sent to them: For residential customers, in a weekly Priority Mail shipment; for businesses, in daily, weekly, or monthly Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express shipments.

Niskayuna service members honored with Quilts of Valor at Glencliff Elementary

"Stitched with care and presented with pride, three Niskayuna military service members received a warm thank you at Glencliff Elementary School when they were wrapped in handmade patriotic quilts. The red, white and blue quilts were crafted by the Southern Saratoga County Quilters as part of the national Quilts of Valor initiative, which seeks to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comfort and healing. During the event, student speakers took to the stage to share the duties of military personnel and the importance of thanking them for their service. The student body also performed “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “This Land Is Your Land,” “Welcome Home” and “God Bless America” as a slideshow of lyrics and student drawings played behind them. U.S. Army Reserve Warrant Officer Jonathan Coupal, U.S. Navy veteran David Hilton and U.S. Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer Justin Staples were honored. For Coupal, it was a privilege to have his family in the audience, including his wife, who teaches at Glencliff. “Being in the military, sometimes I can’t be there for certain events,” said Coupal. “It’s always nice to share those moments with them.” Staples also had family in attendance, including his two children who attend the school. His family nominated him for the honor and kept the details of the ceremony a secret until the big reveal. Hilton, affectionately nicknamed “Bus Driver Dave,” also received a quilt at the event. He loved hearing the kids sing and sharing the moment with the students, many of whom are on his regular bus route in the district. In the months leading up to the assembly, Glencliff students and families raised money through coin drops and other fundraising efforts to support the creation of the quilts. “It is a privilege for Glencliff to be the first school to partner with this local chapter in such a meaningful way,” said Principal David Zadoorian. Cohoes Students Beautify Community for Global Youth Service Day

"Cohoes High School seniors and middle school eighth graders traded the classroom for the outdoors this morning as they worked to beautify locations across the City of Cohoes in honor of Global Youth Service Day (GYSD).  Students wearing brightly colored t-shirts spent the morning weeding, raking, mulching, cleaning and bagging debris at many parks and other sites around the city. A handful of students also spent time in the classrooms of Abram Lansing, Harmony Hill and Van Schaick and visited seniors at the Cohoes Senior Center, where they played card games, set tables for lunch and even washed windows.  Students also visited St. Agnes Cemetery in Cohoes and St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Waterford where they placed flags on the graves of veterans as a tribute to their service and sacrifice in honor of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. GYSD is the largest youth service event in the world, celebrating the impact of young volunteers in their communities. Coordinated by Youth Service America, the event brings together millions of students, schools, organizations, and mentors to address community needs and create positive change. Volunteering at a young age teaches students valuable lessons about responsibility, compassion, and community involvement. Events like this allow them to see firsthand how their efforts can make a meaningful difference, inspiring them to continue giving back throughout their lives.  They worked at several sites across the city:  Berkley Park Cohoes Senior Center Cohoes City School District Central Office Cohoes Waterford Elks Connect Center Craner Park Dooley Park Eddy Village Green Grestini Memorial Park Holy Trinity Lansing Park  Sunset Park Tech Valley Office Interiors United Church of Cohoes West End/Memorial Park The day concluded with cookouts at their respective schools to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments. Thank you to the district’s social workers who organized this event together with city officials, business officials and church leaders: Elaine Flatow, Leni Ferner, Dana DelGenio and Kortney Conley. Niskayuna honors fallen alumni and military-bound seniors at 33rd Memorial Day service

"The Niskayuna High School community gathered for its 33rd Annual Memorial Day Service to remember fallen alumni and recognize graduating seniors entering the military. At the ceremony, district leaders, Class of 1964 alumni and members of the former VFW Lt. Vernon F. Hovey III Post in Niskayuna honored the memory of three Niskayuna High School graduates who were killed in action during the Vietnam War. A wreath-laying ceremony honored Lt. Robert S. Cragin Jr. (Class of 1962), Lt. Vernon F. Hovey III (Class of 1964), and Pfc. Richard W. Starkey (Class of 1965). Several special guests in attendance who served in various branches of the military were also recognized. As the organizers do every year, the 54 Niskayuna alumni veterans who passed away were also honored. Graduating seniors planning to enter branches of the military were presented with certificates honoring their commitment to serving our country. That includes five members of the class of 2026. Senior Sarwat Rahman enlisted with the U.S. Navy for educational opportunities and the ability to serve her country. “After serving in the Navy, I want to work for the New York State Police as a cybersecurity specialist,” said Rahman. Fellow senior Carter Steele plans to attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy after graduation. “Military service is a big thing in my family,” said Steele. “I’m very excited to continue the legacy.” The ceremony also featured special musical performances by students in Bel Canto Voices and Concert Band.
