Bracken County received more than $1.6 million in state and local road funding through measures approved during the 2026 Kentucky legislative session, including money for the Augusta Ferry, road resurfacing, turn lanes and safety improvements.

The awarded funds support projects that affect ferry service and travel on several county and state routes. The funding comes through House Bill 502, House Joint Resolution 75 and House Joint Resolution 76.

Ferry, turn-lane funding

House Bill 502, the 2026-2028 Biennial Highway Construction Plan, provides $537,000 in fiscal year 2027 and $338,000 in fiscal year 2028 for operation of the Augusta Ferry.

The plan also allocates $20,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $310,000 in fiscal year 2027 to add turn lanes on KY 9, also known as the AA Highway, at the KY 875, or Mt. Zion Road, intersection.

House Joint Resolution 76, the Local Assistance Road Plan, includes $108,000 in fiscal year 2027 to resurface Tallner Road, $63,000 for Holts Creek Road, $113,000 for Pea Ridge Road, $53,000 for Bill Wilson Road and $79,000 for Jessie Moore Road.

Longer-term projects listed

House Joint Resolution 75 lists additional projects in the 2028-2032 Highway Preconstruction Plan. The resolution includes $338,000 in each of fiscal years 2029 through 2032 for Augusta Ferry operations.

The list also identifies $4.55 million in fiscal year 2029, $8.4 million in fiscal year 2030 and $31.633 million in fiscal year 2031 to reconstruct KY 8 from Wrangling Run Road to Old KY 19.

Other proposed work includes safety and mobility improvements at the KY 9 and KY 1019, or Lenoxburg Foster Road, intersection. The plan lists $140,000 in fiscal year 2029, $20,000 in fiscal year 2030 and $120,000 in fiscal year 2031 for that project.

It also lists safety and mobility work along KY 8, or Mary Ingles Highway, from KY 2229, or Foster Road, to milepoint 2.78, and from milepoint 2.78 to Willow Creek Road. A separate project would address safety on KY 10 from Brooksville to Germantown.

The source material identifies HJR 75 funding as a “wish list” for the final four years of the six-year road plan. Those funds are not guaranteed and remain hopeful allocations.

The fiscal-year allocations provide the timeline for the projects. The source material does not identify construction start dates or a schedule for implementation.
