Worship Leader Internship - Shannon Park Baptist Church

Worship Leader Internship - SBC Job Board Shannon Park Baptist Church Fairbanks, AK https://www.shannonparkchurch.com/ Active Posted 4 days ago Worship Ministry Pastoral Internship Church Overview Shannon Park Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist (SBC) church in Fairbanks, Alaska, committed to the faithful, expositional preaching of God's Word, intentional discipleship, and Christ-centered community. We desire to see people grow in spiritual maturity through the clear teaching and application of Scripture and active participation in the life of the church. Our ministry is shaped by a high view of God, a commitment to sound doctrine, and a desire to shepherd people well in both truth and love. As part of the Southern Baptist Convention, we affirm historic Baptist convictions and are committed to gospel-centered mission both locally and globally. We are theologically grounded, valuing the authority and sufficiency of Scripture and the centrality of the gospel in all areas of life and ministry. As a church family, we seek to cultivate meaningful relationships, servant-hearted leadership, and worship that is deeply rooted in Scripture and centered on Christ. Position Overview Shannon Park Baptist Church is seeking a Worship Intern who is pursuing pastoral ministry and sensing a calling to lead the church in corporate worship. This internship is designed as a 1–2 year developmental role with the intention of preparing the individual to grow into leading Sunday morning worship over time. The intern will serve in a collaborative role alongside our current Worship Leader, who will remain in place during this transition period. This provides a unique opportunity for intentional training, gradual responsibility, and hands-on discipleship in worship leadership and pastoral ministry. This is not simply a music role, it is a pastoral internship focused on spiritual formation, leadership development, and shepherding God's people through worship. Our Philosophy of Worship At Shannon Park Baptist Church, we believe worship is not confined to music but encompasses the entire gathering of the church. - Worship is theologically driven, rooted in Scripture, and shaped by truth - The entire service is an act of worship, not just the singing - Worship is intended to be congregational, not observational. Our aim is to encourage and enable the gathered church to actively participate in singing and responding to God's Word - Music is intentionally chosen to support and reinforce the sermon, highlighting key biblical themes and truths - Elements of the service (songs, Scripture reading, prayer, sermon) are intentionally connected, working together to present a coherent, gospel-centered focus each week - Music should be accessible and singable for the congregation, with arrangements that serve participation rather than performance or complexity - Worship leadership requires discernment in song selection, including awareness of theological integrity and the broader influence of artists and movements - Worship is meant to lead the congregation in praise of the Lord, not to elevate or draw attention to those leading and is intended to point people to Christ, not to showcase performance or talent We are seeking someone who shares these convictions and desires to lead in a way that is Christ-centered, Scripture-saturated, and pastorally minded. Key Responsibilities Worship Leadership Development - Serve alongside and under the guidance of the current Worship Leader and Lead Pastor - Gradually take on increasing responsibility in planning and leading Sunday services - Play guitar or piano proficiently in a congregational setting - Collaborate with pastoral staff on service structure and theology of worship - Thoughtfully select music that aligns with the church's theological convictions Pastoral Formation - Participate in the church's elder training program - Attend all leadership meetings - Receive discipleship, accountability, and regular feedback from church leadership - Grow in biblical qualifications for pastoral ministry Teaching & Ministry Opportunities - Opportunities for teaching and/or preaching, as appropriate - Engage in discipleship, bible studies, and broader church life - Serve the congregation in various pastoral care contexts Qualifications Required - Clear profession of faith in Christ and evidence of spiritual maturity - Agreement and alignment with the BF&M 2000 - A growing sense of calling to pastoral ministry and worship leadership - Ability to lead worship while playing guitar or piano - Alignment with the church's theological approach to worship - Humility, teachability, and a collaborative spirit - Willingness to serve under leadership and grow through mentorship Preferred - Some level of theological training or seminary education (completed or in progress) - Prior experience in church ministry or worship leadership Commitment & Expectations - This is an unpaid internship, with the potential for a small housing stipend - Intern is expected to maintain full-time employment outside the church or receive a full salary through missionary support - Active, consistent involvement in church life beyond Sunday services is required - Full participation in leadership development structures is expected Location Considerations Fairbanks, Alaska presents unique challenges that must be carefully considered: - Extreme seasonal conditions (long, dark winters; very cold temperatures) - Geographic isolation and distance from extended family/support systems - Potential impact on mental, emotional, and physical well-being for the individual and their family This role is best suited for someone who: - Is prayerfully called to ministry in a demanding environment - Demonstrates resilience and adaptability - Understands and embraces the realities of life in Alaska Vision for the Role Our goal is to raise up a faithful, theologically grounded worship leader who will: - Serve faithfully alongside current leadership - Grow into leading the congregation in Christ-centered worship - Develop as a leader within the life of the church - Potentially transition into a long-term worship leadership role To Apply Please submit the following to [email protected]: - Resume - Testimony of faith and calling to ministry - 3 References
