Jonathan Taylor Thomas, known for his role as Randy Taylor on the 1990s sitcom “Home Improvement,” was arrested in California on Monday, September 21. Authorities detained Thomas, 45, after the vehicle in which he was a passenger was pulled over in the Westlake Village area. He faces charges of obstruction and public intoxication.
The incident began when deputies attempted to perform a field sobriety test on the driver of the vehicle. Thomas, whose legal name is Jonathan Taylor Thomas Weiss, reportedly disrupted the deputies, appearing intoxicated and continually exiting the vehicle to approach them. This behavior distracted officers from their investigation, leading to his arrest.
During the arrest, Thomas allegedly kicked one deputy in the stomach. The driver of the vehicle was also arrested and booked for driving under the influence of alcohol. Thomas was taken into custody at 1:50 a.m. PT on September 21 and released the following day at 12 p.m. PT.
No formal charges have been filed yet. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department will submit the case to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for consideration. Thomas rose to fame playing Randy Taylor in 181 episodes of “Home Improvement” from 1991 to 1999 and also voiced young Simba in Disney’s 1994 animated film “The Lion King.” His last acting credit was a 2015 appearance on Tim Allen’s show “Last Man Standing.”
