Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Santa Ana Mountains, Foothills
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills from Friday, October 2, 2026, 10 AM PDT, until Thursday, October 8, 2026, 8 PM PDT, with temperatures up to 98 degrees and gusty winds expected.
Residents in the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills are advised to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA, effective from Friday, October 2, 2026, at 10 AM PDT until Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 8 PM PDT.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with temperatures reaching up to 98 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition to the heat, a Wind Advisory is in effect for Saturday, October 4, 2026, from 6 AM to 6 PM PDT, with east winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph.
The NWS warns that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. The strong winds could also cause tree limbs to fall, leading to potential power outages, and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
To stay safe, residents are instructed to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and avoid direct sun exposure. Check on relatives and neighbors who may be vulnerable. It is critical to never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures rapidly. Drivers should exercise extra caution due to gusty winds. Secure any loose outdoor objects.
