Extreme Heat Warning Issued: Take Precautions Through Thursday

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Parker Valley, Gila River Valley, Chuckwalla Valley, and Palo Verde Valley until Thursday evening, with dangerously hot temperatures expected to reach 102-106 degrees.

An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Phoenix, AZ, effective immediately until 8:00 PM MST/PDT on Thursday, October 6th. This warning affects residents in the Parker Valley and Gila River Valley in Arizona, and the Chuckwalla Valley and Palo Verde Valley in California.

Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with afternoon temperatures reaching 102 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit. This poses a Major Heat Risk, significantly increasing the potential for heat-related illnesses.

Residents are advised to take extra precautions. If you work or spend time outdoors, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is a medical emergency; call 911 immediately if someone is overcome by heat and move them to a cool, shaded location.

For those working outdoors, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Consult county officials for information on public cooling shelters available in your area.
