North Fort Myers High volunteer logs 8,500 hours, wins state award

Jimey Moad received the Florida Department of Education's 2025-2026 Outstanding School Volunteer Award after volunteering 8,500 hours with North Fort Myers High School's band program over the past decade.

Moad started volunteering in 2016 when his daughters joined the marching band. He remained active after they graduated. He handles logistics, equipment maintenance, safety protocols, and fundraising, volunteering between five and 35 hours each week. His work has supported nearly 2,000 students across marching band, concert and jazz ensembles, indoor percussion, and guard ensembles.

"I'm very proud and very thankful," Moad said. "With this group of band parents, we don't do it to be recognized. We just enjoy giving back."

Director of Bands Michael Flores-Perez credited Moad's work with enabling students to focus on their music. "His tireless dedication ensures that our students can focus entirely on their musicianship and art, knowing that everything behind the scenes is handled with care," Flores-Perez said.

Principal Debbie Diggs said Moad's volunteer work built student resiliency and reduced chronic absenteeism. The School Board of Lee County recognized Moad at their June 9 meeting.
