Man Dead After Shooting Near White House Security Checkpoint

A man who discharged a weapon near a White House security checkpoint died Saturday after Secret Service officers returned fire, the agency reported.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon. According to the Secret Service, the man approached a checkpoint and fired a weapon.

Officers responded, and the individual was shot. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. No Secret Service personnel sustained injuries.
