PERRY COUNTY — A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Perry County, including Beaumont, New Augusta, and Richton, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, effective October 8, 2026, at 10:06 AM CDT. This watch indicates the potential for tropical storm conditions within the next 48 hours.
Residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous wind conditions. Peak wind gusts of 10-20 mph are forecast, with potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Driving conditions may become hazardous, particularly on bridges and elevated roadways.
A potential for moderate flooding rain exists, with 1-3 inches of rainfall expected, and localized higher amounts. This could lead to moderate rainfall flooding, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time; however, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Listen for changes in the forecast.
