PERRY COUNTY, MS – October 8, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Perry County, effective immediately and expiring at 3:00 PM UTC today. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours in the affected areas, including Beaumont, New Augusta, and Richton.
Residents should act now to complete preparations before winds become hazardous. The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but warns of potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to property such as porches, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages.
Heavy rainfall is also expected, with 1-3 inches and locally higher amounts, posing a significant threat for moderate flooding.
