Richmond Gets First Purpose-Built Mountain Bike Trail System

Richmond will build 6.7 miles of mountain bike trails at the new sports complex near the interstate after Shimano awarded a $70,000 grant to the project.

The MadCATR Trail system will host races for the Kentucky Interscholastic Cycling League and serve as a training ground for youth teams and recreational riders. The Madison County Mad Hatters and KYMBA Bluegrass, a volunteer nonprofit that builds trails throughout Central Kentucky, will manage the facility.

Shimano created the Trail Born Fund to support mountain bike trail construction across North America. The 2025 grant recipients include organizations building trails for beginners, families, and experienced riders.

For more information, visit KYMBABluegrass.org or Shimano's Trail Born Fund website.
