Trump to Attend Pentagon 9/11 Ceremony

Why it matters locally: The President's decision to attend the Pentagon ceremony instead of Ground Zero in New York City marks a significant departure from tradition for an event deeply tied to the city's history and the families affected by the attacks there.

President Donald Trump will visit the Pentagon to observe the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. This marks his first time participating in the annual ceremony at the Virginia site. Traditionally, presidents have attended the ceremony at Ground Zero in New York City. This year, Trump will instead join officials and families at the Pentagon, which also sustained a direct attack during the 2001 events. Further details regarding his schedule and remarks were not immediately available.
