Sophie Moeller Named TMCC 2026 Alumna of the Year
Truckee Meadows Community College honored Sophie Moeller as its 2026 Alumna of the Year at commencement, where she delivered remarks to graduates.
Moeller moved to Reno from Massachusetts in 2008. Diagnosed with ADHD in the late 1990s, she struggled academically and battled substance use challenges through her twenties. At 32, she achieved sobriety and enrolled at TMCC, graduating with an Associate of Arts degree in 2022. She joined Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society during her time at the college.
"By engaging with TMCC's student resources, I rediscovered my love for academic learning," Moeller said.
TMCC President Jeffrey Alexander said Moeller's achievements demonstrate the college's impact on students and the community.
Moeller now serves as Development Director for Achieve Tahoe, which expands outdoor recreation for people with disabilities. She started as a volunteer ski instructor in 2008. She also founded a stepparent support group in Reno. She lives in Reno with her husband and two stepchildren and pursues acting.
