TMCC Diesel Technician Program Gets $636K Grant

Truckee Meadows Community College will expand its diesel and heavy equipment technician program after the Governor's Office of Economic Development awarded the college $636,637 through the Workforce Innovations for a New Nevada Fund.
The grant will fund updated training equipment, diagnostic systems, hydraulic tools, and facility improvements at TMCC's Applied Technology Division. Three employers—McCandless Truck Center, Empire Southwest LLC, and Coeur Rochester—told the college they need more trained diesel technicians for mining, transportation, construction, and public works operations.
"This funding will allow us to strengthen hands-on training and expand opportunities for students," TMCC President Jeffrey Alexander said.
Nevada added 28,700 jobs between March 2025 and March 2026, ranking first nationally for job creation for nine consecutive months, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Students interested in the diesel technician program can contact TMCC's Applied Technology Division for enrollment information.
