Boaters and those near area lakes are advised to check conditions and consider postponing activities due to a Lake Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Reno NV. The advisory is in effect today, September 25, 2026, until 8:00 PM PDT.

Southwest winds are expected to reach 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. On Lake Tahoe, waves are forecast to be 1 to 3 feet. These conditions create hazardous environments for small craft.

The affected areas include the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, as well as Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra Counties.

The NWS advises checking lake conditions before heading out and being prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights. It is recommended to consider postponing boating activities until a day with less wind.
