FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Christine Kintz Public Information Officer (954) 935-5311 [email protected] City of Margate Awarded Grant to Enhance Recreational Opportunities at Northwest Nature Preserve Margate, FL – May 17, 2024 – The City of Margate is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) through the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP). These funds will be used to install a new kayak/canoe launch at the Northwest Nature Preserve, located at 1600 Banks Road. The project aims to improve recreational experiences for residents and visitors by providing easy access to the preserve’s waterways, promoting outdoor activities and environmental stewardship. The kayak/canoe launch will feature an ADA-accessible design, ensuring equitable access for individuals of all abilities. “We are thrilled to receive this grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection,” said City Manager Cale Curtis. “This funding will enable us to enhance the Northwest Nature Preserve and provide our community with improved recreational opportunities. This project aligns with our commitment to creating outdoor spaces that benefit both residents and the environment.” The City of Margate is committed to providing high-quality recreational opportunities for its residents and visitors.
