Dense Fog Advisory for Coastal Areas: Drive with Caution This Morning

Dense fog has developed along the Oregon and Southern Washington coasts, significantly reducing visibility for morning commuters; drive with caution and use headlights.

Staff Writer

Coastal residents and commuters in Clatsop, Tillamook, and Central Oregon Counties, as well as the South Washington Coast and Willapa and Wahkiakum Lowlands, are advised to exercise extreme caution this morning due to areas of dense fog. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Portland, OR, issued a Special Weather Statement at 4:48 AM PDT today, October 5, warning of rapidly changing visibility.

The NWS reports that some localized areas are experiencing visibility of less than one mile. This statement is effective immediately and is expected to expire at 10:00 AM UTC (3:00 AM PDT) this morning, October 5.

Drivers should slow down, use their headlights, and maintain ample distance from other vehicles. Pedestrians and cyclists are urged to wear bright or reflective clothing and carry a light to ensure they are visible to drivers.
