Residents and travelers in the Ferris/Seminoe/Shirley Mountains, Central Carbon County, North Snowy Range Foothills, and Southwest Carbon County should prepare for high winds. A High Wind Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne, Wyoming, effective from 3:00 PM MDT today, October 11, until 6:00 AM MDT on Monday, October 12.

The NWS predicts south to southwest winds reaching 25 to 40 mph, with gusts potentially up to 65 mph. These conditions are expected to significantly impact transportation, particularly for lightweight or high-profile vehicles such as campers and tractor-trailers, due to strong crosswinds. Specific areas affected include Arlington and Elk Mountain along Interstate 80.

A High Wind Warning indicates that a hazardous high wind event is expected or is currently occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 MPH or gusts of 58 MPH or stronger can lead to property damage. Drivers of vulnerable vehicles are advised to consider delaying travel or exercising extreme caution during the warning period.
