History Keepers Named Grand Marshals of Quincy's 75th Flag Day Parade

Mayor Tom Koch announced that Quincy's History Keepers will serve as Grand Marshals of the 75th Annual Quincy Flag Day Parade on June 13.

The grand marshals represent 16 individuals and leaders from the National Park Service, Quincy Historical Society, Granite Railway and Quarry Museum, Adams Presidential Center, and the City of Quincy's Historic Heritage Department.

"Quincy's story is America's story," Mayor Koch said. "From the birth of two presidents to the generations of workers, veterans, and families who built this community, our History Keepers ensure that those stories are preserved and passed on to future generations."

Grand Marshals include Marianne Peak, Adams National Parks Superintendent; Dr. Edward Fitzgerald, Executive Director Emeritus of the Quincy Historical Society; Alexandra Elliot, Executive Director of the historical society; James Edwards, Board President; Alfred Bina, Founder and President of the Granite Workers Museum; Tom Bonomi, museum assistant; and Robert Damon, Director of Historic and Heritage Resources for the City of Quincy.

Adams Presidential Center Board Members serving as grand marshals include Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr. (USMC ret.), Katherine Craven, Benjamin C. Adams, Danielle Allen, Joseph R. Clark, Rob Hale, Lt. Governor Kerry Healey (2003-2007), Edward J. Keohane, Erin Perkins, Sam Slater, Rob Waldron, and Dr. Kurt Graham, APC President.

The parade steps off at 7 p.m. on Coddington Street in Quincy Center, proceeds north on Hancock Street, and turns into Merrymount Park. The Grand Marshals will ride in the parade and be recognized during the flag-raising ceremony at Pageant Field.

Quincy's Flag Day Parade is the nation's longest-running Flag Day Parade. The late Richard J. Koch started it in 1952 with children from the Koch Club marching through Norfolk Downs before concluding with a flag-raising ceremony at Cavanagh Stadium.
