Quincy Election Dept Launches 88-Language Translation

Quincy Election Department Deploys Translation Software in 88 Languages

The Quincy Election Department has equipped recycled iPads with translation software capable of supporting 88 languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The department partnered with Inclusion Solutions to repurpose iPads from retired poll systems, purchasing only the software rather than new hardware. The devices will be available at polling locations during elections and deployed across city departments year-round to help staff communicate with residents who need language assistance.

"This new translation technology is another important step toward ensuring all residents can confidently participate in the electoral process regardless of the language they speak," City Clerk Nicole Crispo said.

Translators and in-person language assistance will continue to operate at polling locations. For questions, residents can contact the Quincy Election Department at (617) 376-1144.
