Heat Advisory Issued for Region: Stay Hydrated, Seek Cool Air

A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento, effective immediately until 10:00 PM PDT on Wednesday, October 7th. This advisory covers a wide area, including portions of Western Shasta County Foothills, South-Central Shasta County (including Redding Metro), Eastern Shasta County Foothills, the Sierra Nevada of Tehama-Butte-Plumas Counties, Northern, Central, and Southern Motherlode regions, Western Tehama County Foothills, Northern Sacramento Valley in Tehama County, Central and Eastern Glenn County, Butte County Below 1000 ft, Western Glenn and Colusa County Foothills, Central and Eastern Colusa County, Sutter and Yuba Counties Below 1000 ft, the Capay Hills of Yolo County and Vaca Hills of Solano County, Western Yolo County (including Capay Valley and Interstate 505), Central Yolo and Northeast Solano Counties (including Woodland and Davis), Sacramento Metro and Western El Dorado and Amador Counties, Central and Southwestern Solano County (including Fairfield, Vacaville, and Vallejo), Sacramento County Delta, San Joaquin County Delta, Central San Joaquin County (including Stockton Metro), Tracy Triangle Below 1000 ft, Northeastern San Joaquin Valley Below 1000 ft, Eastern Diablo Range Above 1000 ft, and Western and Central Stanislaus County (including Modesto Metro).
High temperatures are expected to range from 94 to 102 degrees, with overnight lows in the mid-60s to low-70s. This heat will result in widespread Moderate HeatRisk and localized areas of Major HeatRisk. The hottest days are anticipated from Monday through Wednesday. These conditions may cause heat illnesses, particularly for individuals without effective cooling or adequate hydration.
Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and limit sun exposure. Check on relatives and neighbors. When outdoors, take extra precautions: wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and take immediate action if they appear.
