Residents in Putnam, Overton, and Fentress counties are advised to seek shelter indoors immediately as a strong thunderstorm approaches. The National Weather Service (NWS) Nashville has issued a Special Weather Statement effective until 9:30 PM CDT tonight, September 21, 2026.

As of 8:43 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm located 7 miles southeast of Livingston, moving east at 15 mph. This storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 40 mph and half-inch hail. The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects, and minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.

Areas most likely to be impacted include Cookeville, Livingston, Algood, Monterey, Crawford, and Rickman. If you are outdoors, it is crucial to consider seeking shelter inside a building for your safety. This statement is based on radar indications and provides actionable information to help residents prepare for the incoming weather.
