HCC to Host 9/11 Remembrance Events on Friday

September 5, 2023 Hillsborough Community College (HCC) will host a series of events on Friday, September 8, 2023, to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The events are designed to provide opportunities for reflection, remembrance, and service. Brandon Campus Time: 8:45 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. Location: Flag Pole Description: A remembrance ceremony will be held at the flagpole. The ceremony will include a moment of silence, the Pledge of Allegiance, and remarks from HCC leadership. Dale Mabry Campus Time: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Location: Student Services Auditorium, DALE 114 Description: There will be a showing of "No Day Shall Erase You." The film is a student-led documentary which shares the personal reflections of those in the Tampa Bay Community on the 9/11 attacks and how the tragedy impacted their lives. South Shore Campus Time: 10:00 a.m. Location: SSC Lobby Description: A remembrance ceremony will be held in the lobby. The ceremony will include a moment of silence and remarks from HCC leadership. Ybor City Campus Time: 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Location: Performing Arts Building, YBOR 109 Description: There will be a showing of "No Day Shall Erase You." The film is a student-led documentary which shares the personal reflections of those in the Tampa Bay Community on the 9/11 attacks and how the tragedy impacted their lives. Rodriguez, who star in the FX drama series “Pose,” will be special guest speakers at CAN Community Health’s Inaugural Red Ribbon Gala on March 16 at the Ritz-Carlton. Along with appearing in “Pose,” which has a large cast of transgender actors, Porter and Rodriguez have appeared in hit shows like “Rent,” “Kinky Boots” and “American Horror Story.” “It is an honor to have such incredible role models like Billy and MJ advocating for the LGBT community and the end of HIV stigma,” said Rogelio Capote, chief advancement officer, CAN Community Health. “We are deeply committed to creating a community where all people living with HIV have equal opportunities for healthy living.” Proceeds from the Red Ribbon Gala will support CAN Community Health’s continuum of medical, social and education services essential to the health and well-being of those living with HIV, hepatitis C, sexually transmitted diseases and other illnesses, said Capote. “We also focus on building awareness of these often forgotten members of our community.” The slogan for the Red Ribbon Gala, “Reshaping the FACE of HIV,” demonstrates the spirit of this event, added Capote. “CAN’s programs strengthen empowerment, provide education, enhance inclusion and create hope by offering integrated resources and advocating for the end of HIV stigma,” he said. Gala sponsorships are available from $30,000 to $2,500. Individual tickets are $450.
