Severe Thunderstorm Warning: El Paso, Pueblo Counties Urged to Shelter

Residents in southern El Paso County and northeastern Pueblo County are advised to take immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Pueblo, effective until 10:30 PM MDT tonight, September 20.

At 9:54 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected 9 miles east of Pinon, or 10 miles north of Pueblo Airport, moving southeast at 15 mph. This storm is capable of producing ping pong ball-sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph. These conditions pose a risk of injury to people and animals outdoors. Damage to roofs, siding, windows, vehicles, and trees is anticipated.

Affected locations include Pueblo Depot and Avondale. For your safety, the National Weather Service recommends moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. The warning is in effect until 10:30 PM MDT.
