PRATTVILLE, AUTAUGA COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Autauga County, specifically impacting Prattville, effective immediately as of October 9 at 9:56 PM CDT. Residents are advised to shelter from dangerous winds now.
Peak winds are forecast between 30-40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, posing a potential for wind speeds of 58 to 73 mph. Last-minute efforts to protect life and property should be complete. The area remains subject to significant wind damage.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This presents a potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Major rainfall flooding may prompt many evacuations, and rivers and tributaries could rapidly overflow. Streets and parking lots may become dangerous, with many road and bridge closures.
The NWS indicates the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected at this time. Showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. This warning is effective until October 10 at 6:00 AM UTC (1:00 AM CDT). For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
