Woman seriously injured in stabbing at Overtown apartments; police seek tips
Miami police are asking for the public’s help after a woman was repeatedly stabbed at an Overtown apartment complex along the 1000 block of Northwest Seventh Court.
According to a Miami Police Department incident summary and information provided to local television outlets, officers were called to the complex around 8:13 p.m. Thursday after reports of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found an adult woman suffering from multiple stab wounds inside the property, which sits just west of Northwest Seventh Avenue and a few blocks south of Northwest 11th Street.
Miami Fire Rescue personnel treated the victim on scene before taking her to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Officials said she was in serious but stable condition when she arrived at the hospital. Police have not released her name, citing victim privacy laws and the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Detectives with Miami Police’s Criminal Investigations Division are working to determine what led up to the attack. As of the latest update from the department, investigators have not publicly identified a suspect or motive and have not said whether the victim knew her assailant.
Detectives are asking residents in the area, including those living along Northwest Seventh Court and nearby Northwest Tenth Street, to review any home security or cellphone video from around the time of the stabbing. Anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual is urged to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Miami Police Department’s non-emergency line or contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477). Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward if their information leads to an arrest.
