ROCKFORD, Minn. (Day.News) — One woman died and another suffered significant leg injuries after a juvenile girl driving with her mother struck them while they walked on a sidewalk in Rockford Sunday afternoon. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office reported the crash at the intersection of Ash Street and Elm Street around 1:53 p.m.[1] Deputies and fire officials arrived to find one woman pinned under the vehicle; they freed her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.[1]
The surviving woman was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale with serious injuries.[1] The driver, a juvenile from Cologne, and her mother passenger were not hurt.[1] Rockford, a small city of about 160 residents in Wright County northwest of the Twin Cities, saw its streets fill with emergency responders as the investigation began.[1][2]
No charges have been announced as the sheriff’s office probes the circumstances of how the vehicle left the road and hit the pedestrians.[1] The incident occurred at a residential area near Elm and Ash streets, highlighting safety concerns in the close-knit community.[2] Wright County authorities have not released the names of the women killed or injured, pending family notification.
