An officer-involved shooting in Wilton Manors left at least one civilian injured and prompted a multi-agency investigation, according to local news reports. Here is what we know so far.
Wilton Manors police said no officers were injured in the shooting, while at least one civilian was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with a gunshot wound, according to CBS Miami, WSVN, Local 10 News and other reports. One report said the wounded man was in critical condition, and later reporting said he died at the hospital, according to CBS Miami.
Reports say the incident began as a domestic disturbance or domestic violence call involving an armed man, according to WSVN and Local 10 News. Police described the scene as a very active investigation and said the case was being referred to the Broward Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The response included a locked-down area around the home, with roads secured and expected to remain closed for several hours, according to CBS Miami. Reporting also said a mobile command center was set up outside the residence while investigators processed the scene. WSVN reported the Broward Sheriff's Office Forensic Response Unit was helping collect evidence, and FDLE would take over the investigation under standard protocol for police-involved shootings.
CBS Miami reported that the two officers involved were placed on paid administrative leave, consistent with department policy after a police-involved shooting.
Dispatch records show 73 similar officer-involved shooting incidents in Fort Lauderdale over the past six months.
The investigation remains active, with Broward Sheriff's Office and FDLE expected to continue reviewing the circumstances of the shooting, according to police and news reports.
