WHO Links European Heatwave to 1,300 Deaths, Germany Records 41.7C

European countries experienced an estimated 1,300 deaths connected to a recent heatwave, the World Health Organization reported. The organization's director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, indicated European nations are unprepared for high temperatures.

Germany recorded a temperature of 41.7 degrees Celsius (107.06 degrees Fahrenheit) during the heatwave. This figure represents a new record for the country.

Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted the health implications of such extreme weather. He noted a shortfall in readiness across the region to manage the impacts of prolonged heat.
