Veterinary Prescription Fees Capped Under New Regulations

Veterinary practices across the UK will implement new regulations covering prescription-only medications. The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) announced these changes. Practices will have several months to integrate the new requirements into their operations.

One key change establishes a cap on fees for veterinary prescriptions. The RCVS set this cap at a maximum of £10 for each written prescription. This applies to medications requiring a veterinary prescription but that clients can purchase elsewhere.

Additionally, practices must now inform clients when a specific prescription-only medication may be available at a lower cost through online pharmacies. Vets will need to proactively communicate these alternatives to animal owners.
