US Targets Iran's Digital Financial Networks

WASHINGTON – The United States on Wednesday targeted two entities and three individuals. Officials stated these actions addressed efforts by the Iranian government to fund activities through digital currency networks. Authorities stated the action exposed how international digital asset exchanges provided the Iranian government, including the Central Bank of Iran, with access to the international financial system. This network includes BitBank, a platform linked to Babak Zanjani. Officials stated Zanjani is a financier whose operations have channeled funds to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which the U.S. has designated a terrorist organization. The U.S. government stated it aims to prevent the Iranian government and the IRGC from accessing resources that officials say threaten regional stability, support terrorism, and undermine international security. U.S. officials urged nations and the private sector, particularly those in digital assets, to ensure their platforms are not used by the Iranian government or its facilitators.
