U.S. immigration authorities maintain a policy of deporting individuals to Haiti. These operations include the removal of individuals identified as having criminal convictions. Tom Homan, former acting director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), defended these actions. Homan stated that ICE prioritizes removing individuals who pose a threat to public safety. He indicated that the agency considers various factors when scheduling and executing deportation flights. These factors include an individual's immigration status and any criminal records. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has identified some deported individuals as having convictions for crimes including sexual offenses, gang affiliation, drug trafficking, and violent assault. Reports indicate that multiple deportation flights have occurred in recent weeks. One such flight transported 129 individuals, including 20 U.S.-born children.
