Ukraine Targets Russian Vessels, Refineries Amid Crimean Operations

Ukrainian forces confirmed strikes on Russian naval vessels near occupied Crimea and oil refineries within Russian territory. These actions occurred over the past week, according to Ukrainian military statements.

On Saturday, March 23, the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces announced that Ukrainian forces hit the *Yamal* and *Azov*, two large landing ships. They also struck a communications center and other infrastructure belonging to Russia's Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol, Crimea. Footage released by Ukraine's military appeared to show missile impacts and subsequent damage near targets in Sevastopol.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) sources reported attacks on at least 12 Russian oil refineries across Russia. These operations, coordinated with other defense forces, aim to disrupt fuel supplies crucial for the Russian military. These sources indicated that drones traveled distances of up to 1,100 kilometers to reach targets located in Russia's Republic of Bashkortostan.

Andriy Yusov, a spokesperson for Ukraine's defense intelligence agency, stated on national television that Ukrainian forces engaged various naval targets, including ships and port infrastructure, during the Sevastopol strikes. He described these actions as part of a strategy to reduce Russia's military capabilities in the Black Sea.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed a Ukrainian missile attack on Sevastopol. Russia's defense ministry reported that its air defenses intercepted 10 missiles over the region. Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, stated on social media that the attacks caused a “massive” Ukrainian missile strike and that debris damaged civilian infrastructure, including an office building and a gas main. He also mentioned impacts on residential areas.

Ukrainian officials described these strikes as part of ongoing efforts to challenge Russian control and supply lines in Crimea. Ukraine has previously targeted Russian naval assets and logistical routes supporting military operations.
