Two Miami Officers Shot in Allapattah Standoff; Suspect Killed

National Desk
May 12, 2026
Two Miami Police Department officers were shot and hospitalized after an armed standoff with a barricaded suspect in the Allapattah neighborhood Tuesday, according to department incident reports. The male sergeant sustained a gunshot wound to the ankle, while a female officer was struck in the knee during the extended confrontation. Both officers underwent emergency surgery and are expected to recover. The incident unfolded after Miami police responded to reports of a barricaded suspect in the neighborhood west of Wynwood. The standoff lasted several hours as negotiators attempted to resolve the situation peacefully. The suspect was ultimately killed during the exchange of gunfire, according to preliminary reports. The shooting marks another significant officer safety incident for Miami Police as the department continues managing multiple public safety challenges across the city. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been notified and is conducting a standard officer-involved shooting investigation, which is protocol for all such incidents. The names of the officers and suspect have not been released pending notification of family members. Miami Police Public Information officials declined further comment Tuesday, citing the ongoing investigation. The Miami-Dade Police Department's Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a parallel administrative review. Allapattah, located west of the Wynwood Arts District, has seen increased community investment in recent years, though public safety remains a priority for residents. The neighborhood's diverse population and cultural significance make effective police operations essential to community stability. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Miami Police at 305-603-6637 or Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477. The investigation remains active.
