Trump Says He Will Release Iran Deal Text on Friday
President Trump said he will release the complete text of the Iran nuclear deal on Friday, indicating he might read the agreement aloud during a press conference.
Trump did not specify which press conference or provide additional details about the timing or format of the release. NBC News correspondent Gabe Gutierrez reported on the president's statement.
The announcement follows calls from various parties for the Trump administration to disclose the full terms of the agreement between Iran and world powers. The 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, negotiated under the Obama administration, limits Iran's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
Trump has criticized the Iran deal since his 2016 campaign, calling it insufficient and poorly negotiated. His administration has taken a harder line on Iran policy, withdrawing from the agreement in May 2018 and reimposing sanctions.
Public disclosure of the deal's text would mark a shift from the administration's previous approach to the agreement, which it has questioned without releasing the full document for public review.
