Trump Appeals Ruling on IRS Lawsuit Regarding Tax Information Release

Donald Trump's legal team has appealed a court decision that dismissed his lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The lawsuit sought to prevent the release of his tax returns to Congress.

U.S. District Court Judge Trevor McFadden previously dismissed Trump's suit in 2022. McFadden stated in his ruling that Trump filed the lawsuit to "manipulate" legal proceedings.

Trump initiated the lawsuit in 2019. He aimed to block a congressional committee's request for six years of his tax returns. The House Ways and Means Committee, then led by Democrats, sought the records.

The U.S. Supreme Court ultimately ruled against Trump in November 2022. This decision allowed the Treasury Department to release the tax records to the committee. The committee then made the documents public in December 2022.

The appeal of McFadden's ruling is proceeding through the courts. The case remains a point of discussion during ongoing negotiations between two Republican senators and the Department of Justice. These discussions involve the nomination of Todd Blanche to serve as attorney general.
