THOMASVILLE, GA – October 9, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Thomasville, effective immediately, until October 10, 2026, at 1:15 AM UTC. Residents must act now to complete preparations, as hazardous conditions are imminent.

A Flood Watch and Tornado Watch are also in effect. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding from heavy rain, with additional rainfall amounts of 3-6 inches and locally higher possible. Evacuations and rescues are likely, and failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow their banks, and floodwaters could enter many structures, making roads impassable. Those in flood-prone areas should strongly consider protective actions.

The situation is very favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for many, some possibly intense. Those living in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to a safe shelter immediately. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.

Winds are expected to be 15-25 mph with gusts to 45 mph, with a potential for 39 to 57 mph winds. Efforts to protect property should be underway, and residents should prepare for limited wind damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Many large tree limbs may break, and some trees could be uprooted, potentially causing scattered power and communication outages. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges are also possible.
