TikTok Settles Children's Privacy Case with Justice Department for $400 Million

WASHINGTON – TikTok will pay the Justice Department $400 million to resolve a children's privacy investigation. The agreement stipulates an immediate payment of $300 million from the social media platform. A further $100 million will be remitted after a court order vacates an earlier consent decree that applied to Musical.ly, TikTok's predecessor company.

The Justice Department announced the settlement on Friday. This resolution addresses practices related to the collection of personal data from users under the age of 13. Details of the original consent decree against Musical.ly, which is now integrated into TikTok, were not immediately released beyond its association with the additional $100 million payment.
