Tigers Defeat Yankees 4-3 in Tight Contest

The Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Yankees 4-3 on Sunday, securing a series victory at Comerica Park. Detroit broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning, plating two runs against Yankees reliever Luke Weaver.

Spencer Torkelson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Tigers a 4-2 lead. Torkelson's sixth home run of the season traveled 395 feet. Andy Ibáñez collected two hits and one RBI for Detroit. Javier Báez also contributed with an RBI double.

Clay Holmes (1-1) took the loss for the Yankees, allowing two runs on one hit in 0.1 innings pitched. Jonathan Loáisiga surrendered a home run. Nestor Cortes Jr. started for New York, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits. He walked two batters and struck out five.

Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton hit his 15th home run of the season in the ninth inning, a solo shot off Tigers closer Alex Lange. Anthony Rizzo also recorded an RBI for New York. Lange earned his 10th save of the season, despite allowing one run in the ninth inning.

Reliever Tyler Holton (1-0) earned the win for the Tigers, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Tigers starter Tarik Skubal completed 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out six batters and walked one. The Tigers maintained their third-place position in the American League Central standings.
